Monarch Dance Studio
Mommy and Me Classes
Students learn basic dance skills, work on balance and coordination skills and use songs and musical instruments to develop rhythm. Dancers will also learn to interact socially with other children in a classroom like group setting. These classes are presented in a shorter session than our performance classes, ranging from 8-12 weeks.
Combo Classes
This is an introductory class for our younger students aimed at teaching them the basics of several different styles of dance.
Tap
Students will learn the basics of a Broadway style tap in beginner levels. As they continue to build on their basics we incorporate more rhythm and funk style influences.
Jazz
Students will learn the basics of a Broadway style Jazz in the beginner levels. As they continue to build on their basics we incorporate funk and lyrical styles.
Ballet
Ballet is the foundation of all styles of dance, and therefore we encourage each student to invest in their ballet training. Students will learn classical ballet focusing on the French School of training to improve ballet technique and precision of movement while fostering each dancer’s natural grace, beauty and poise.
Pre-Pointe
Students at least 12 yrs of age will learn exercises focusing on proper posture and body placement and developing strength in the feet and ankles. Dancers will also be taught proper foot care/hygiene and the skills necessary for preparing pointe shoes such as sewing.
Pointe
Advanced ballet dancers will learn the basics of dancing on their toes. Because of the physical demands of this class all pointe dancers are required to take an accompanying one hour technique class. Enrollment is also subject to approval by the studio Director.
Contemporary
Students will explore the many styles of modern and lyrical dance, such as Graham, Taylor, Horton and Limone. This class fosters emotional expression and helps a dancer to develop his or her own “style” of performance and stage presence.
Hip-Hop
Learn the newest dance moves of today’s hip hop scene set to current popular music. All music and costumes will be age appropriate.
Special Needs Dance
Our special needs dance program called "Open Skies" is run by Miss Jericho who has worked with children and adults who face physical and developmental challenges of many kinds. Our classes are focused on sharing the love of dance and performing arts with students at their own pace, in a loving, encouraging and supportive environtment. Lessons will include many styles of dance including ballet, jazz, contemporary and hip hop. **Please note that our studio is on the second floor and dancers in this program will need to be ambulatory and able to safely climb a flight of stairs.**
